Confidence: Holding Your Seat Through Life's Eight Worldly Winds – Talk with Ethan Nichtern
Confidence is a trait that many of us strive for, but it can be difficult to maintain in the face of life's challenges. In this talk and meditation, guest teacher Ethan Nichtern explores how the eight worldly winds in Buddhism offer a profound insight into the forces that shape our self-perception and emotional well-being.
Ethan Nichtern covered these topics in his talk:
- How the eight worldly winds-consisting of four pairs of opposing experiences-represent the constant ebb and flow of life's challenges and rewards. The pairs are pleasure and pain, praise and criticism, fame or influence and insignificance, and success and failure. Each pair reflects a fundamental aspect of human experien...

From Autonomic to Volitional Attention - talk with Sean Oakes
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
At the heart of meditation is the work of retraining our attention. Because attention is in service to the autonomic nervous system, which is devoted to keeping our body safe, it habitually scans the environment for danger. Even in the absence of danger, attention follows intensity, so in meditation, emotionally-charged thinking will always be more compelling than the relatively neutral experie...

Finding Contentment - Wherever You Are: Talk with Rick Hanson
Just what I needed Rick. I was getting into a real funk before listening to this last night. Thank you. I searched for this after years of benefiting from you and Forrest, wondering more about how you relate to "self" with all the western psychology.
In the old days we could have a conflict, discuss it, come to joke about it then let go of it over a glass of wine!
I don't hope for anything. Hope isn't real.
Life is meaningless suffering. I also detest people who say "suffering is beautiful"; hearing that is very painful.
Everything matters.
I really don't understand this at all.
You can only have confidence if you know what to do. If you don't know what to do, there is only confusuon and randomness.
That was such insightful piece of work rich in practices that I'm going to listen again Thank you🙏
Thank you Nathan this was a beautiful peaceful meditation session 🙏
Thank you for sharing your wisdom in such a warm and healing way
Thanks for your calming words and behavior!
Lovely meditation. 💐

As a vegan I sincerely thank you for expressing your awareness and sorrow about the mice whose lives were sacrificed against their will for the research to be done. Every animal's life is everything to them.
thanks Rick for this video. Much appreciated
Hi Rick, I missed you. You are always bang on target.🎉❤❤❤

Thank you, sir.
Thank you🪷:).
It could be practicing in intercommness 11:56 but find The Refuge in yourself first. This is going to be good because I'm familiar a little bit with the first step. Six to go eventually. I have a mild regret that I don't know my core self very well. One thing I have going for me is that I'm not afraid of the amount of regrets I have a feeling that I own.
Hi Dr. Rick Hanson: Thank you for all your teachings that you share freely with us. I listen to you on RUclips and the podcast by your very capable son, Forrest. One thing that constantly comes up again and again is “take in the good.” As a very shy and introverted person right from childhood, I felt and still feel very uncomfortable with praise, compliments, etc. I always feel I am not worth it and tend to avoid those situations altogether. I blush, change the topic, negate it by saying “no, not at all.” A few days back was my 54th birthday and the sense of dread started to wash over me since morning. I then remembered the above advice and decided to give it a try. I did attend the spiritual meet in the evening (I had actually decided to give it a miss!) and accepted the warm birthday wishes from everyone. Though uncomfortable, I did it, Dr. Hanson, much like a brave soldier!! Looking back, I guess I did pretty well. A heartfelt thanks to you. I will definitely remember this advice and “take in the good.” I really hope you read this. I am not aware of your email ID, hence posting this on a public platform. Love from India.
God bless and keep you. We need your comforting words!
7:18 'shrink behind the bars of our invisible cage' avoidant behavior to a 't!' Ask me how I know. 17:46 sounds like existential dread.
